LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin's Ellen Trout Zoo recently welcomed its second Bay Duiker baby in a little more than a month. According to the zoo's Facebook page, their second mated pair of Duikers had a calf late last week.
The Ellen Trout Zoo posted photos of the newest addition to its Facebook page on Sunday.
"Just over a month ago, a tiny Bay Duiker was born at the Ellen Trout Zoo," the zoo page's status update stated. "That animal has thrived and has more than tripled her weight. A couple of days ago, our second pair of Duikers became parents as well.'
The zoo Facebook page said the baby Duiker is the pair's fourth calf, and it is "by far the largest one born here in recent years."
According to the status update, the baby Duiker received her well baby check from the zoo's veterinarian Sunday. At two days old, the calf weighed as much as the previous calf weighed when it was a week old.
The Ellen Trout Zoo is located at 402 Zoo Circle in Lufkin, just off of north Loop 287. It is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., including holidays and weekends. The cost of admission is $5 for adults, and $2.50 for children ages 4-11. Children under the age of 4 get in free.
