Angelina County Historical Commission looking at idea of Lufkin Historic Districts

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin and Angelina County could soon be home to several new historical districts.

The Angelina County Historical District met Tuesday morning to discuss several topics including the discussion of trying to form several historical districts in the area.

The new historical districts in town include the Mantooth Park Historical District, Downtown Lufkin Historical District, Old Mill Road Historical District, South First Street Historical District, and a Lufkin Residential Historical District, that would be located in the area of the convention center.

“There are so many buildings that are over 100 years old,” William Royale said. “There are some wonderful homes around Lufkin. We would like to see how to recognize some of these areas of our old homes and old buildings, so that Lufkin can remember our history."

The group's meeting today was just to start discussion on the idea. No formal plans have been made or presented at this time.
