2 on motorcycle killed in wreck on US 69 south of Lufkin

ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Two people on a motorcycle have died following a wreck on US 69 south of Lufkin Thursday afternoon.

The driver of the motorcycle has been identified as Charles Dennis Kilgore, 49, of Lufkin. The passenger was Lisa Ruskin, 51, of Lufkin. Trooper Clint Henderson said they are still trying to find a next-of-kin for her.

Henderson said the duo were on a 2006 Harley Davidson and were weaving in and out of traffic on US 69 and even into the northbound lane. He said they were in the northbound lane and swerved back into the southbound lane and crashed into the back of a 2007 GMC Yukon, which was slowing down to take a left-hand turn onto Carroll Road, to take a look at some puppies which were being sold on the side of the road.

Hannah Martin, 23, and her son, Gabriel, 3, of Huntington, were in the Yukon. Henderson said Gabriel had just unbuckled his seatbelt and flew to the front of the Yukon when the motorcycle crashed into them. Both were treated and released from a Lufkin hospital.

Kilgore died on the scene and the woman died later at a Lufkin hospital.

"Witnesses said they were going fast, but we can't determine that because there were no skid marks," Henderson said.

He said initially, they were not thought to be wearing helmets. But that is undetermined now.

"Some witnesses said they weren't, others said one was and one wasn't, some say both were," Henderson said.
