CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) - Investigators with the Crockett Police Department are seeking the public's help in locating the last of three suspects in a string of air conditioner thefts that have occurred in the town over the course of the past six months.
According to a press release, two of the suspects have been arrested and charged with theft of copper between $1,500 and $20,000, which is a state-jail felony. Howard Wooten, 31, and Jeffrey Simmons, 33, both of Crockett, are still being held in the Houston County Jail.
The Crockett Police Department is still looking for the third suspect, Myron Wooten. A felony arrest warrant for theft of copper between $1,500 and $20,000 has been issued for Wooten, 39, of Crockett.
The press release stated that CPD investigators have been investigating more than 10 air conditioning thefts that have occurred within the Crockett city limits within the past six months.
"Each case involved businesses or residences that were vacant," the press release stated. "During these thefts the suspects cut the copper tubing and wires and removed the entire outside unit. These thefts occurred during the late night or early morning hours."
On. Oct. 8, Crockett Police officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Loop 304 in reference to a report that two air conditioning units had been stolen. Further investigation revealed that parts of the two units were sold at a Crockett scrap yard.
"After viewing scrap records and video surveillance the Crockett Police Department was able to identify two suspects," the press release stated. "This identification also led to the positive identification of suspects from video surveillance in another case."
Based on the evidence, Crockett Police investigators sought and obtained arrest warrants for Howard Wooten, Myron Wooten, and Simmons.
Anyone with any information about these air conditioner thefts or the whereabouts of Myron Wooten is urged to call the Crockett Police Department oat (936) 544-2021 or Crime stoppers at (9936) 545-TIPS.
