HOUSTON COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - An East Texas couple celebrated a huge and rare milestone Saturday.
Edith and Alvin Campbell of Houston County celebrated 75 years of marriage this week. The couple was married on October 15,1939.
Now, it wasn't exactly love at first sight for the couple. The two met during their freshman year of high school. At the time, Alvin was dating Edith's friend, and because of this, the couple's love story didn't start until a year later. Edith said when Alvin's girlfriend had to move away, she told her to take good care of Alvin.
"And that's exactly what I did," Edith said.
When the two married a couple of months later, Alvin was 16 years old and Edith had just turned 17 years old.
"I had to lie to get our license," Alvin said.
Almost a century later, the two said they could not be happier.
"The Bible says when two people get married, it's for life," Alvin said.
"We have had a good marriage but it's gone by so fast," Edith said.
The couple have three children ,six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
