Emergency crews responded to a fiery plane crash near Leggett Saturday that resulted in one man being airlifted to a Galveston hospital for treatment of severe burns.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Richard Crawford, 64, of Buchanan Dam, was flying a Legacy Kit fixed-wing, single-engine plane, when he crash-landed in a pasture about five miles west of Leggett at approximately 5 :45 p.m. Saturday.
A witness said the plane was engulfed in flames as it circled the pasture, according to the DPS report. The witness said Crawford crawled out of the plane's wreckage, and rolled to extinguish the flames on his clothes.
The report stated that Crawford suffered severe burns to his upper body.
