LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - East Texas moms-to-be have a new community resource that aims to help mom and baby be as healthy as possible. Officials with the "My 9 Months Program" say it's free to all women. The only requirements are that you have to be pregnant to participate. The program aims to provide the emotional support that moms need throughout their pregnancy.

Breanna McCulloch got an ultrasound of her baby boy Tuesday.

"It's pretty cool," McCulloch said.

She's 20 weeks pregnant and is part of the "My 9 Months Program" with the Pregnancy Help Center in Lufkin.

The new program provides expecting moms with valuable resources throughout their pregnancy

"What doctor should I go to? When do I need to go to the doctor, we have a wealth of information to share with them," said Denise, a client advocate at the Pregnancy Help Center.

Lindsey Arnold is pregnant with her second child and although she's been through this before she still finds the support at the pregnancy center valuable.

"It's great to have someone to tell you, you know it's okay if you have a problem and every pregnancy I've learned," Arnold said. "I came into this thinking this is just going to be the same process, every pregnancy is different."

Pregnancy Center officials say they saw moms in the community needed help, emotional support and baby gifts so they stepped up to fill in the gaps.

"We go and teach them about pregnancy. What to expect, what's healthy, what's not, how to care for yourself when you're pregnant and prepare them for that time when the baby comes," Denise said. Each time they come they come they're going to get a little gift bag from us that almost always will contain diapers and wipes and things they can just store up for when the baby comes."

Arnold came in to learn more about breast feeding.

"A lot of girls my age and younger don't know a lot about breast feeding and you know it's an important gift to give your child if you're able to," Arnold said.

The Pregnancy Center works in coordination with the mother's doctor and develops a unique monthly pregnancy plan for every mom. Any woman who is pregnant whether it's their first child or their fourth child can join the "My 9 Months Program." There is no income requirement for assistance.
