The search for a new Lufkin ISD superintendent is underway, but not without the community's help. The Lufkin Independent School District school board is asking for the public's input on who should replace Superintendent David Sharp.
Less than two months ago, Sharp decided it was time to step down. During his nine years as superintendent, Sharp has been credited with many of the district's accomplishments, making his shoes hard to fill.
School board members are taking on the challenge, but not without your help. The school board has set up four different profile sessions. Sixty community members will be there, finding out what type of person you think should be the next school district leader.
Two longtime educators will be search consultants. They are Attorney David Thompson and former Dallas Superintendent Mike Moses.
Board members hope to have the profile complete before the Christmas break, so when they get back, they will be ready to work. The school board hopes to fill the position before Sharp leaves in June.
