NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches County Sheriff's deputy was injured in "a fleet accident" at the intersection of State Highway 7 and the loop late Friday night.
Sheriff Jason Bridges posted on the NCSO Facebook page that Deputy Marguerite Vasquez was traveling west on Highway 7 near the loop when another vehicle exited from the loop and attempted to turn onto Highway 7.
"Deputy Vasquez took evasive action, but was unable to miss the vehicle that came into her path," Bridges said in the status update.
According to the status update, Vasquez was transported to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for treatment of a broken ankle.
"This accident was very severe and had the potential to cause a lot more injuries," the status update stated. "We are thankful that both Deputy Vasquez and the other driver were secured by seat belts."
Bridges said Vasquez may require surgery for her ankle.
"The Sheriff Office would like to thank everyone for their prayers and thoughts, and we are hoping for a speedy and healthy recovery for both people involved in this accident," Vasquez said.
Bridges said the accident is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
