The Homer Garrison federal building is in the process of being sold to a local private investor. An announcement is expected soon. The building is located behind the Pitser Garrison Civic Center in downtown Lufkin.
The city council, the Angelina County commissioner's court, the Economic Development Partnership, and the Chamber of Commerce have approved the sale. At this point, they are in the process of getting all the paperwork complete. Everything should be finalized by the first part of the year.
The federal building housed the offices of Congressman Jim Turner and the U.S. Forest Service.
One of the busiest offices that used to be located in the federal building has already moved to a new location. The Social Security office that services many East Texas residents can now be found next to Lufkin Middle School on East Denman. Employees moved into their brand new building around Thanksgiving.
