NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

In August, the University of Texas Medical Branch pulled its Women's Health Clinic out of Nacogdoches.

On Thursday, the void was filled when a new clinic opened up in Nacogdoches. It will be operated by Nacogdoches County Memorial Hospital.

It's called Care First Clinic.

Most of the former staff members from the UTMB clinic are now working at the South Street location.

One section is a women's health clinic offering prenatal and postpartum care. The other section has a primary care clinic serving the entire family.

The clinic is providing a place for primarily uninsured clients to receive care.

“Sometimes people without insurance wait to the last minute until they're really, sick and we're hoping with our services that we are able to provide here that people will be able to come when they first get sick and then be able to follow up here without keep going back to the ER,” said Nancy Fredo, the director of midwifery services at Care First Clinic

After the first of the year, Care First Clinic will offer annual exams, family planning, and some medical procedures.

An open house was held at the facility Thursday afternoon.
