SHELBY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A 44-year-old San Saba man died in a fiery two-vehicle accident in Shelby County which involved an 18-wheeler and a minivan early Monday morning.
According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred at approximately 12:05 a.m. Monday about 10 miles south of Center on U.S. Highway 96.
The press release stated that the preliminary accident report indicates that a 2010 International tractor-trailer rig hauling wood chips was traveling south on US 96 when a northbound 2014 Dodge Caravan crossed the center line and struck it head on. After the impact, the 18-wheeler caught fire and burned.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, James Lee Fuller, 69, of Jacksonville, was not hurt in the accident. Cory Dow Stovall was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Justice of the Peace Larry Jones.
Both Fuller and Stovall were wearing their seat belts when the accident occurred.
The crash is still under investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.
