CORRIGAN, TX (KTRE) - A 65-year-old Corrigan man died as a result of his injuries after he tried to cross U.S. Highway 59 and was struck by an 18-wheeler on Oct. 31.
Corrigan Police Chief Darrell Gibson said that, according to witnesses, Alvin McQueen tried to cross U.S. 59 in Corrigan from the southbound side to the northbound side shortly after noon on Oct. 31.
Gibson said Billy Kendrick, 56, of Grapeland, was driving an 18-wheeler on U.S.. 59 and didn't see McQueen crossing the road. When Kendrick tried to make a left turn while the light was red and struck McQueen.
The truck kept going until a witness got the driver to stop, Gibson said.
McQueen died in the ambulance at the scene before he could be airlifted to a hospital for treatment, Gibson said.
According to Gibson, Kendrick was taken to CHI Memorial Livingston, so a mandatory blood sample could be obtained. Gibson said his department hasn't gotten the toxicology report back.
Gibson said the fatal incident is still under investigation and added that charges could be pending.
