DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office have arrested a Pollok man accused of having a sexual relationship with a runaway girl from Waco.
Michael Chad Albert, 22, is charged with second-degree sexual assault of a child.
Lt. Pete Maskunas said the 15-year-old girl's parents connected their daughter to Angelina County and were in town all day Tuesday working with Texas Rangers and detectives with the sheriff's office.
"Information we had combined with information they had lead to a little more clear picture of what we are dealing with," Maskunas said.
Authorities were able to track the couple down in a Diboll motel and Maskunas said Albert confessed to the crime.
Maskunas said online solicitation crimes like this have become a common occurrence.
"A lot of these kids don't have a whole lot of social interaction or personal interaction with their own peer group so they go online looking for friendships and typically run into things like this," Maskunas said.
Maskunas said as a parent he is always on alert with his children and he hopes others can learn from his example.
"At any point in time I will walk in and pick their phone up," Maskunas said. "I know their password. If I don't know their password, I will make them tell me their password. I'll review their stuff and review what they are saying and watch. We keep close track of it."
Albert's bond has been set at $50,000.
