JASPER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Calling it a "blessing," the Kirbyville ISD superintendent says no students suffered major injuries after a school bus was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler in Jasper County Wednesday morning.

Dr. Richard Hazlewood said the bus had come to a complete stop on US 96, north of Kirbyville, at 7:35 a.m. to pick up a group of children and the driver had turned on the flashing lights when the rig crashed into the back of it.

Six children were taken to a Jasper hospital and others were checked after getting picked up by parents, but "as the good Lord is with us, there were no major or serious injuries," Hazlewood said.

There were 53 students ranging in ages from 5 to 18 on the bus.
