Leaders from all over East Texas packed the Pitser Garrison Convention Center in Lufkin Wednesday for the 2014 Texas Forest County Partnership meeting.
The annual event kicked off around 10 a.m. Wednesday. Organizers said this meeting gave community leaders the opportunity to share and brainstorm ideas. Towards the end of the program, the prestigious Silver Bucket Award was given to East Texas native Buddy Temple. Temple is currently ill and was unable to attend the event so his wife, Ellen, accepted the award on his behalf.
"Buddy is so proud of this award. Buddy loves East Texas," Temple said. "You know he loves the forest, the lakes, and the people and that's what makes this award so special,"
Temple is the 25th person to receive the Silver Bucket Award. According to the Texas Forest County Partnership, Temple's achievements include: serving on the Diboll School Board, vice president, president and chairman of Exeter Investment Company, elected state representative, and chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission.
