LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - It's not officially open yet, but a few Angelina county residents got a taste of some new home-style cookin' in Lufkin Friday morning.
Cracker Barrel had a soft opening, which meant local dignitaries were treated to their signature breakfast.
The restaurant and retail store's management said they have taken great pride in hiring almost all local people. Almost every employee at the location is from the Angelina County area.
"Everything from our cashiers to our retail, servers to serve everyone," said James Lester, the general manager for Lufkin's Cracker Barrel. "A wonderful back of the house staff, grill cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers, so all of that equals up to right over 200 full- and part-time employees. We have a healthy mix of both."
Lester said a store this size will bring in an estimated $6 million annually. The store officially opens on Monday morning.
Lester is a veteran at opening new Cracker Barrel stores. He said the Lufkin restaurant, Store 622, is the fourth one that he has started from the ground up.
