LUFKIN, TX (News Release) - Crime Stoppers of Lufkin needs your help identifying the persons responsible for two arson incidents.
Around the end of July, someone shot a flare into a house on Idylwood Drive in Lufkin. The homeowner was readying the house for sale, and it was vacant when the suspects fired a flare through a window. The flare traveled across the room and landed on the wood frame of a rear window. Both windows were damaged but the fire did not spread beyond the frame of the rear window.
Just before midnight July 21, a home on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard was attacked in the same manner. This time, the house was occupied, and when the suspects fired a flare through a window, they set fire to a couch. The residents woke to the smell of the couch burning, dragged the couch outside, and extinguished the fire before more damage or injuries occurred.
Around 10 p.m. November 04, someone fired a flare into a portable toilet at construction site in the 2100 block of South First Street. An employee of a nearby business spotted the resulting fire and called Lufkin Fire Department. The flames were extinguished but the structure was destroyed.
