ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A man has suffered burns and lost his home in an Angelina County fire Wednesday morning.
According to E.R. Brooks, the chief of the Rivercrest Volunteer Fire Department, two buildings in the 1500 block of Ray Fisher Road caught fire Wednesday morning. The man was burned from the waist up, Brooks said.
One building was destroyed as a result of the fire, and power lines were down.
According to family members, the man's name is Robert Sweet. He is 50. Captain Alton Lenderman with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office said that Sweet was initially taken to a Lufkin hospital and was later transferred the University of Texas Medical branch in Galveston.
Neighbor Jamie Penick said Sweet ran over to the house and his hands and head were burned. He asked her to call 911.
"I mean I cried. I just feel so bad for him. He lost everything," said Penick.
Lenderman said he thinks the fire started in a wood stove.
