LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

An East Texas company based in San Augustine is about to go global. The Pinto Pony Cookie Factory recently teamed up with HEB and will now be available in stores across Texas and Mexico.

Jodi Johnson, the owner of the Pinto Pony Cookie Factory. said when she noticed that her neighbors couldn't get enough of her homemade cookies, she decided to take things to the next level.

"So I got on LinkedIn and contacted a buyer from center market,” Johnson said.

From there, she teamed up with HEB, but getting a loan wasn't easy.

“We were limited to getting funding,” Johnson said.

She said getting loans in East Texas was nearly impossible, but eventually things fell into place.

"We will be available in as many stores 700, including the ones down in Mexico,” Johnson said.

On a daily basis, her crew produces hundreds of cookies. She said now she can't keep up with the demands. So she purchased a building next door to her factory, so she could expand.

She then hired 16 people to the Pinto Pony Family, but no matter how much they expand, Johnson said there's one thing she wants to keep the same.

“We want to stay a family here,” Johnson said.
