LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Family Crisis Center is collecting gifts for their Adopt-a-Family program. More than 100 families that are clients of the crisis center need help giving gifts to their loved ones this year. These are families that have been affected by sexual assault or family violence.
The kids and mom make a list of needs like clothes and shoes, then three wish items they would like to have this holiday season.
"I think what's most heart wrenching is when you see a lot of the families the kids will ask for wish items that include a new coat or a new pair of shoes it makes us really realize at this time of year what you would consider a want or a need is totally different for somebody that doesn't have a lot," said Susan Robertson with the Family Crisis Center of East Texas.
The Family Crisis Center asks that all gifts be brought to their location by December 11.
Organizers also ask that donors do not wrap the gifts but provide wrapping paper to empower the family allow them to be a part of the gifting process.
