A Nacogdoches man died after being hit by a vehicle coming from the opposite direction while standing outside his SUV on State Highway 7 in Shelby County Wednesday afternoon.
Arthur Edward Rogers, 34, died at the scene at 4:20 p.m.
According to the DPS report, Rogers was standing outside his 2006 GMC Sierra on Highway 7, 4.3 miles west of Joaquin, at 3:40 p.m. on the westbound shoulder. Sheila Hooks Dixon, 54, of Center, was driving a 2004 Ford Excursion eastbound and crossed the center line and struck Rogers.
"He's going to be missed by a whole lot of people. He was goofy. He liked to hunt and liked to fish and just hang out and be with family," said Sherry Luke, a family member.
Arthur and his girfriend, Misty Estep, were planning to make it official this month. They had seven kids all together.
"He took my kids in like they were his own,"said Estep.
"He was loved by everybody. If you knew Arthur you would be touched,"said Luke.
