Trusty escapes from Jasper Co. Jail, steals county truck

JASPER, TX (KTRE) - Jasper County authorities have released a bulletin stating a trusty has stolen a county pickup and escaped custody.

Sheriff Mitchell Newman said Shane Borel, 39, was working at a Precinct 4 barn around 2 p.m. when he stole a 1983 red and white Ford pickup BU82937.

"Someone just turned their back to him and he drove off," Newman said.

He has relatives in the Orange area.

According to records on

, Borel is white, 5-foot-7, 150 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair.

He has a lengthy criminal record, including a conviction for first-degree aggravated robbery in 2002. He was sentenced to 15 years in April 2002 and paroled in September 2011.
