LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Goodwill in Lufkin is asking for volunteers to be on their free tax preparation team.
The Goodwill VITA program files tax returns for those in the community completely free and is run by a volunteer staff. Last year the program submitted 800 tax returns and brought more than $1 million dollars in tax refunds back into the community.
Staff at Goodwill says anyone with any skill level can volunteer.
"You don't have to be an accountant or anything to do it. All you need to be is somewhat computer literate. If you can use Facebook and email pretty much you have the ability to do it. We have the training programs that we offer and we have classes that are starting now," said Tracy Shannon, Goodwill workforce development director.
If you want to volunteer to help prepare taxes, you just need to call goodwill in Lufkin and sign up.
The free tax prep service will be offered starting in January
