Firework Safety

Many East Texans will ring in the new year with fireworks. They can be fun, but they can also be deadly if they aren't used properly.

"Bigger is better," said, 19-year-old Tyler Jones.

He is looking forward to bringing in 2005, with some fireworks. Tyler reads the warning labels, and knows these are explosives you must handle with care. Kids should be supervised by parents around fireworks. Older folks, should always use good judgment.

There are rules of where you can and can't set off fireworks. The City of Nacogdoches is off limits.

Lt. Dan Taravella, of the Nacogdoches Police dept., said, "We normally get a lot of calls, we try to give warnings, but fireworks can be seized and violators can be given a ticket."

The top priority is to keep the New Year's celebrations safe.
