CENTER, TX (KTRE) - A Shelby County woman is living her dream of owning a bakery and catering company. She spends her days elbow-deep in batter and icing creating tasty treats.

The smell of fresh baked goodies welcomes you into the the Little Fox Marketplace on the square in Center.

Cindy Lindsey opened Sassy Red's Bakery in September fulfilling a 20-year-old dream.

"It's not what I had in mind when I was a kid, but I've always loved baking and cooking," Lindsey said.

Lindsey found a passion for the catering business from her mother-in-law.

"I just really enjoyed the business. I just liked being with the people and I like cooking for people and I really like it when they love when I cook," Lindsey said.

Now she runs the only locally owned bakery in Center.

She said it's exciting to open a business in the city where she grew up and even more sentimental because her mother used to have a store in the space where she now bakes every day.

"God just made it all work out to where I could open my business here," Lindsey said.

She makes the traditional bakery items like custom cakes, pies, and cookies but also creates new age desserts like cookie bouquets, cake balls, and cake pops.

"I keep cupcakes and cookies here all the time, and I'll usually have a special of the week in the cupcakes, but I do all kinds of special orders," Lindsey said.

Lindsey welcomes anyone's sweet suggestions.

"Just about anything that anybody can think of, we'll do it for them," Lindsey said.

She said she uses her friends as guinea pigs for her new recipes and enjoys the creative process of making new desserts. You can stop in Sassy Red's Bakery on Shelbyville Street in Center and indulge in a $2 cupcakes or a 50-cent cookie or order more!
