NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - East Texans gathered in Nacogdoches to start their Thanksgivings off with a three-mile race in the Pilgrim's Pride Turkey Trot this morning.
Hundreds of racers took their marks this Turkey Day morning in Pecan Acres Park to run the 5K race.
The trot was a benefit event for the Nacogdoches County United Way.
Prizes were given to winners of the race, best costume, and even best chicken legs.
Second place winner in the costume contest, Christina Hollins, shared with us why she laced up and ran in today's 5K.
"We're running for the cause for the United Way, and for fun! It's Turkey Day and we're going to go gobble up some turkey, so we might as well burn some calories. It's a win-win situation,"said Hollins.
