DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) - An exclusive engineering exhibit that's only making nine stops across the country is at the T.L.L. Temple Memorial Library in Diboll.
It's all about fun and games at the Discover Tech exhibit. The unique engineering exhibit will only be in a handful of libraries across the country.
"We're the only library in Texas that will be hosting it," said Outreach marketing and youth specialist at T.L.L. Temple Memorial Library, Justin Barkley
Every piece of the exhibit is interactive and aimed at educating people about the careers in engineering by showcasing different things that engineers do in their jobs.
"It takes you through the grand challenges of engineering and so you think through the scientific process a little big, you identify a problem, figure out how to fix it," Barkley said.
Library staff says the display is set up like something you would find in a natural science museum.
"You can play with it and build something and then it kind of makes sense," Barkley said.
And it's a great way to get people excited to learn about science and technology.
"You hear about the different light bulbs that we're switching to all the time so...there is a little experiment that you can do that show's how the energy is used in different types of light bulbs," Barkley said. "Some kids can learn by just reading. I know with thinks kind of things it's more memorable when you can say hey I saw that light bulb and how it works."
Plus there is a component geared toward getting girls involved in the male-dominated engineering field.
"I think that it's really important to be able to get it away from guys and show girls engineering things, they can build things too," Barkley said.
Library staff says they are fortunate to have a facility that can host an exhibit this size and view offering interactive elements like this as part of the changing role of local libraries.
You can visit the free exhibit at the library in Diboll now through January 5 during normal library hours: M-F, 9 AM - 5:30 PM, Sat, 10 AM - 2 PM.
