SHELBY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The Shelby County Sheriff's Department arrested 53-year-old Donna Evans yesterday after a phone call from Deputy Mike Walker of DeWitt County in Illinois.
Evans was wanted for official misconduct and theft in Illinois, but fled to Center after the incident. She was employed as a village treasurer and stole over $10,000 in public funds.
The investigation went on for about a year. Deputy Walker faxed a warrant to Shelby County for Evans's arrest around 2:55 p.m., and authorities made an arrest at Evans's workplace about an hour later.
"They did good work out there in Shelby County," said Chief Deputy Walker.
Evans's ex-husband who was also under investigation gave up her location to officials.
Evans may find a waiver of extradition and will be transferred back to Illinois. Because it is an out-of-state warrant, she may not post bond until she returns to Illinois.
Evans has a bond of $50,000 upon return to Illinois.
