DPS: Man found dead after car hits tree in Polk County, bursts into flames

POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A man was found dead Thursday morning after his car left the road near Moscow, hit a tree, and burst into flames, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to a press release, the man's identity is still unknown at this time.

DPS troopers responded to a 911 call about a one-vehicle wreck at about 10:18 a.m. Thursday on Lyons Cemetery Rd. approximately three miles east of Moscow. When they arrived on the scene, they determined that a 1989 Ford Taurus had left the road to the right and struck a tree. It caught fire and burned.

An approximate time of the crash has not been determined at this time.

The driver's body was transported to the Jefferson County morgue for DNA testing and to determine a cause of death, according to the press release.

The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.
