Tanker fire causes delays on US 59

Department of Public Safety troopers say north bound traffic has been shut down to one lane on 59 North and Loop 287 due to a tanker truck fire. 

Officials with DPS say troopers from Angelina and Nacogdoches Counties were dispatched to the fire at 11:28 a.m. Saturday. 

The truck, traveling north bound on 59, was transporting airplane fuel. According to a trucking company manager at Patterson-UTI, the truck caught on fire. Troopers say the tanker trailer was not damaged, and no fuel was lost.  They say the driver of the truck was not harmed and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire.

Both south bound lanes of 59 are now open.
