NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Two days after a 24-year-old single mother died as a result of a shooting incident that occurred on Railroad Street, the Nacogdoches Police Department has obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect in the case.
According to a press release, investigators aren't releasing the man suspected of fatally shooting Dominique Brooks Friday night, so it won't hamper their efforts to apprehend him.
"Investigators determined that the suspect in the case had been involved in an altercation earlier Friday with a resident of the house on Railroad Street where the shooting occurred," the press release stated. "The suspect returned to Railroad Street armed with a handgun and began firing at the residence as he was walking down the street, in retaliation."
According to the press release, Brooks and several other people were on the front porch of the residence when she was shot in the chest. Brooks was rushed to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, where she later died.
The press release said that Brooks wasn't involved with the altercation that occurred at the residence before she was shot.
In a previous East Texas News story, bystanders at the scene said that the suspect fled the area after Brooks was shot.
Brooks is survived by her boyfriend and their daughter.
