Nacogdoches couple honoring son by making someone's Christmas brighter

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - In an effort to keep their son's spirit alive, the Shaws have established "Dane's Wish."

The couple is wanting to make someone's Christmas brighter. Alex and Justin lost their son, Dane, and Alex Shaw's mother in a house fire in June 2013.

"We want people to nominate other families and just tell us why they're nominating that family," Alex Shaw said. "Tell us their story and at that point we'll go through our e-mails. We would like to give back for those families for Christmas right now at least."

"Nothing is going to replace that feeling," Justin Shaw said. "I mean, our son used to light up Christmas time and we want to do that for other families and especially ones that can't provide a great Christmas."

Nominations will be accepted through Dec. 20 at

The Shaws are supplying the gifts themselves, so this year they need to limit nominations for Nacogdoches and Lufkin residents.

Some day the couple would like to establish a non profit program and give back in honor of Dane.
