ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Following a traffic stop near the intersection of Atkinson and Timberland drives, an Angelina County Sheriff's deputy arrested two East Texas men on drug and firearm charges early Thursday morning.

Angelo Hughes Davis, 37, of Lufkin, and Ismael Enriquez Olvera, 22, of Diboll, are both still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a first-degree felony manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance charge. Davis was also charged with third-degree felony unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon charge. No bail has been set for his charges.

Olvera was also charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon and evading arrest, which are both Class A misdemeanors. Collectively, Olvera's bail was set at $18,000.

According to the Angelina County Sheriff's Office activity report, an ACSO deputy spotted a traffic violation and pulled a vehicle over near the intersection of Atkinson and Timberland drives at 1:18 a.m. Thursday.

When the deputy made contact with the driver, he noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. After Olvera, the passenger in the vehicle, told the deputy that the vehicle was his, he allegedly fled from the deputies.

Olvera was caught a short time later. A search revealed that he had $1,460 in his pocket, the activity report stated.

Deputies searched the vehicle and allegedly found 39.2 grams of a crystal-like substance which field-tested positive for methamphetamine in the dash. A Taurus .40-caliber handgun was found in the vehicle, and it was within reach of both Davis, the driver, and Olvera. Deputies also found a spoon and a scale in the vehicle.
