ETMC announces cancellation of ambulance service in Houston Co.

Come March 14, 2015, resident in Houston County will soon have to find another ambulance service.

ETMC officials met with HoustonCountyy officials Thursday morning to formally announce the move.

“For many years, ETMC has been able to provide ambulance service in many communities for free or for a small fee, but with the changes in reimbursements from Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance we could no longer afford to provide this service, “said Neal Franklin, general manager for ETMC EMS. “ETMC EMS will work with the community on finding a new provider.”

Houston County Judge Erin Ford said he could not comment on theannouncementt at this time, but said the commissioners court will begin looking at other options.

Ford pointed out that ambulance service will not stop to the Grapeland Emergency Service District.

"They have a different contract set up for their ambulance service," Ford said.

The last day for ETMC to run ambulances will be march 13, 2015.
