POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The driver involved in a fatal one-vehicle crash in Polk County on Dec. 4 has been identified through DNA testing
According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the DNA test revealed that the driver of the car was Shamel Donnel Baldwin, 22, of Camden. The crash is still under investigation.
The accident report stated that DPS troopers responded to a report of a one-vehicle crash on Lyons Cemetery Road at about 10:18 a.m. on Dec. 4. When the DPS troopers arrived at the scene of the wreck, which was about three miles east of Moscow, they determined that a 1989 Ford Taurus had been traveling north on Lyons Cemetery Road when it left the road to the right.
Baldwin's Taurus struck a tree, caught fire, and burned to the rims.
An approximate time of the crash has not been determined at this time, according to the accident report. Baldwin was transported to the Jefferson County Morgue for DNA testing and to determine a cause of death.
