SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office have arrested one man in connection to an alleged theft ring where multiple suspects have been hitting oil and gas drill sites and stealing oil, diesel, and batteries of all sizes.
Joshua Miles Bearden, 25, of San Augustine, is still being held in the San Augustine County Jail on state-jail felony charges of theft between $1,500 and $120,000 and engaging in organized criminal activity.
Deputy Tammy Fountain with the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office said that Bearden and numerous other suspects have been hitting oil and gas drill sites all over San Augustine County. Fountain said, all total, eight companies have had their sites targeted, and each company has had multiple sites hit by the suspects.
Several hundred gallons of oil and numerous batteries have already been recovered, according to San Augustine County Chief Deputy Gary Cunningham.
Fountain said based on evidence they have already gathered in the case, the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office sought and obtained arrest warrants for three other men, who are still at large. The other suspects in the theft ring include: Roy Edward Marshall, 37, of San Augustine, Russell Dale Smith Jr. 20, and Jeremy Bradford Sowell, 21, both of Hemphill.
