DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) - An Angelina County-based Texas Department of Public Safety trooper arrested a 35-year-old Gary woman for allegedly driving while intoxicated with two young children in the car late Sunday night.
Julie Ann Beam is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a state-jail felony charge of driving while intoxicated with a child under the age of 15 in the car. No bail has been set at this time.
According to a press release, the DPS trooper assisted the Diboll Police Department with a possible intoxicated diver at approximately 9:53 p.m. Sunday. When the trooper arrived on the scene, he learned that Beam, the driver of the car, had been stopped for driving erratically on US Highway 59.
The DPS trooper noticed that Beam showed “multiple signs of intoxication,” and after she performed poorly on field sobriety tests, she was arrested and charged with DWI with a child under the age of 15.
The press release stated that Beams had a 5-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy in the car with her. Both children were released into the custody of a family member.
After Beam was required to provide a blood sample at CHI St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, she was transported to the Angelina County Jail.
