JASPER, TX (News Release) - Jasper County authorities might be one step closer to solving the death of 85-year-old Herbert Deaton.
On Tuesday, the Jasper County Sheriff's Office said they located the vehicle of the Jasper man in a Kmart parking lot in Abilene.
Now authorities are looking for 48-year-old Robert Kelly Mounts and his girlfriend, 29-year-old Ashley Nicole Lewis, to get some answers.
The Jasper County Sheriff's Office issued felony warrants for the couple's arrest the couple allegedly used the elderly man's credit cards and stole his 2011 Chevrolet pickup truck.
Deaton was reported missing in early November after he failed to show up to a doctor's appointment. A couple of days later the Jasper man was found dead just feet away from his house. Cal Morgan, an investigator with the Jasper County Sheriff's Office, said the cause of Deaton's death is homicidal violence.
"Lewis and Mounts are suspects of interest," Morgan said.
He said prior to Deaton's death, Lewis was helping Deaton out around his house.
"The couple remains at large and are believed to be driving a Volkswagen Passat with Tennessee license plates N1375X," the JCSO press release stated. "The couple is also traveling with their 6-month-old daughter and are considered to them to armed and dangerous. They are known to target churches and fabricate stories to con people out of money. They often claim Ashley is the daughter of Robert and use the baby in their fabricated stories,"
