NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches County deputies managed to arrest a Cushing man after he allegedly stole a vehicle and a gun and took part in a police chase before convincing others to give him a ride Thursday afternoon.
Charles Courtney Waller, 35, is charged with second-degree burglary of a habitation, third-degree unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, state-jail felony unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, misdemeanor A resisting arrest and misdemeanor A burglary of a vehicle.
According to a Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office report, deputies learned that DPS Lufkin was pursuing a stolen vehicle and entering Nacogdoches County at 3:29 p.m. DPS reported losing the vehicle on FM 225, but deputies found it and began to chase it before a deputy lost sight of it.
A perimeter was then set up and the vehicle was found with nobody in it on County Road 769.
According to the report, Waller had abandoned the vehicle and gone to a home with a gun, where he talked someone there into giving him a ride.
The driver became suspicious and left the vehicle and the report states Waller then jumped into the driver's seat and tried to leave with the vehicle but someone was able to restrain him until deputies arrived.
He was arrested after a brief struggle, according to the report.
His bond was not set, as of noon Friday.
