NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Nacogdoches Police officers arrested a 39-year-old man on a first-degree felony drug charge after a traffic stop on Banita Street Tuesday afternoon.

Byron Jerome Hawkins, of Nacogdoches, is still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail on a first-degree felony manufacture and/or delivery of a controlled substance between four and 200 grams charge. No bail has been set at this time.

According to the police report, NPD officers stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of Banita Street at about 12:58 p.m. Tuesday because the driver failed to signal that he was making a turn.

When the officers made contact with Hawkins, who was an occupant of the vehicle, Hawkins was acting very nervous, according to the police report. He was holding a bag, and further investigation revealed that the bag contained drug paraphernalia, the report said.

After a pat-down search, the officers found Hawkins to be in possession of crack cocaine, the report stated.
