Nacogdoches man leads high-speed chase through 3 counties

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches Sheriff's Department arrested 47-year-old Gerald Herbert Jr. of Nacogdoches after he lead them on a high speed chase that started at 3:45 p.m.

According to Sgt. Davidson of the Nacogdoches Sheriff's Department,  Herbert's father had reported his white Chevrolet pick-up truck stolen.

Nacogdoches Police Department located the truck on the loop and attempted to pull Herbert over.  He stopped initially, but sped down Highway 7 West as officers were making contact.

The chase started in Nacogdoches County and went through Angelina and Cherokee County.  Herbert then went back through the counties in the opposite direction reaching up to 100 mph.

"He reached a dead-end, and that's when we stopped him," Davidson said.

Davidson says at one point during the chase, Herbert drove northbound in a southbound lane on Hwy 69.

Herbert then took off on foot and ran about 100 ft. before he was taken into custody in Nacogdoches at 4:33 p.m.

"He was arrested and will have five offenses," Davidson said.

Herbert already has a felony grand jury indictment warrant in Shelby County.  Today, he was charged with both felony and misdemeanor evading arrest, felony deadly conduct, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
