Tyler Co. authorities find sex offender who fled traffic stop barefoot

TYLER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Authorities in Tyler County have found a registered sex offender who allegedly fled the scene of a traffic stop in Woodville barefoot Tuesday morning.

Chief Deputy Phil Ryan of the Tyler County Sheriff's Office said Kirby Lee Bookman Jr. 24, was stopped by law enforcement in Woodville for a traffic violation and fled the scene. In the process of running away, the man lost both of his shoes.

He was found around 4 p.m. at the Woodville Walmart.

Bookman is a convicted sex offender. He was convicted in 2003 of two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child. The victims were a four-year-old boy and girl.

Ryan said he was wanted on several warrants.
