CENTER, TX (KTRE) - A Shelby County jailer was injured and an inmate faces felony charges after authorities say the inmate attacked the jailer while being booked in jail on Sunday.
Sheriff Willis Blackwell said Marquel Ealy was being booked in the jail after being arrested by Timpson police on a charge of public intoxication. During processing, Ealy became belligerent and aggressive with two jailers, according to Blackwell.
Blackwell said Ealy was ordered to a holding cell, but he ran to another door and started beating on it. He then got in a struggle with a jailer before being subdued.
The jailer suffered facial abrasions.
Ealy is now charged with third-degree assault on a public servant.
