LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Jerry Huffman, the longtime president and CEO of the Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce announced his plans to retire Wednesday afternoon.
"After much deliberation on my part I announced my retirement to the Chamber Executive Committee today," Huffman said in a letter. "It was with mixed emotions that this decision was reached, but my desire to pursue other activities has increased - it is time for a change."
Huffman's proposed retirement date is May 31. He said the Chamber Executive Committee will be presenting a plan to the board next week to replace him as soon as possible.
"The Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber has been my passion for over 30 years and I leave knowing it is a strong, respected organization, both locally and across this great state," Huffman said in his letter. "I have been blessed, not only for being your Chamber executive, but to have served with awesome leadership that had the vision to make our community grow and become what it is today and make the Chamber an integral part of that growth."
Huffman said that he hopes the Chamber will continue its leadership role and make Lufkin and Angelina County "the vibrant and dynamic community we want it to be." He praised the Chamber's leadership and volunteers and said that he is confident the best years for the organization and the community are still ahead.
