HOPE Center Recognized for Job Training

The Hope Center of North Lufkin is often associated with feeding and housing the homeless, but the help the center provides goes a lot farther than that.

Nearly three years ago, the HOPE Center set up a computer lab to help north Lufkin residents get the skills they need to find employment and improve their existing job skills.  The program is successful, even getting national recognition from IBM's Small Business Division.  IBM selected the HOPE Center out of almost 400 U.S. organizations as one of its Small Business Innovation Challenge winners.

Hope Center director Linda Pendland says, "We're concerned about the whole person and developing character and developing skills."

More than 133 people have graduated from the HOPE Center's six-week computer literacy training program.
