HOUSTON COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Houston County authorities are looking for a man who robbed the Austonio Stop convenience store at gunpoint Thursday night.
According to a press release, a white man dressed all in black entered the Austonio Stop at about 9:51 p.m. Thursday. He brandished a semiautomatic pistol and robbed the clerk. The suspect then left the store and got into a dark-colored General Motors-type pickup. The truck was a single cab, and it had a tool box.
"He had the gun pointing at me, so I got the money and I laid it right here," said Richard Kuikendall, the store owner.
He thought of trying to talk the suspect out of the robbery. He thought of assuring him that he "didn't have to do this," and offering the suspect help with what he needed.
"I didn't step over and look because I didn't know if he might shoot me or what," Kuikendall said
"Forty-one years, and that's the first time we had an armed robbery," Kuikendall said.
He was calm today, and though the suspect is still on the run, he said today he is blessed.
"It's over with. He didn't pull the trigger, so I'm not at the funeral home," Kuikendall said.
Houston County Sheriff Darrel Bobbitt is urging anyone with any information about this robbery to call the sheriff's office at (936) 544-2862.
