LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches might be the oldest town in Texas, but it is turning into a hub for trendy artists.
Del Conner is an East Texas native and published writer. She says Nacogdoches is appealing to artists of all backgrounds.
"People are moving to Nacogdoches to be craftsman, artists, writers and painters," said Conner.
She says the main allure is the town's rich history and young demographic. Conner and several Texas authors were at Hastings Sunday afternoon promoting their books.
The women were in town to share their work and to also attend the pulp queen girlfriend weekend. The event takes place in East Texas every year, and draws in hundreds of readers and best selling authors from all over the United States.
Nacogdoches resident Rachel Galan says the art scene has influenced her children.
"My youngest daughter Miriam wants to be a novelist," said Galan.
She says authors like Del Conner have inspired her 13-year-old to think outside the box.
"Del Conner and other local writers visited my daughter's school recently. Del has kept in touch with my daughter and read some of her work," Galan said.
Conner says that it's important to support, entertain and inspire other artists.
