Accident Serves As Reminder For Other Motorists

An accident Monday morning in Nacogdoches should serve as a reminder to drivers that the West Austin and Old Tyler Road intersection does not have a four way stop sign. The wreck happened when the driver who was traveling east on Austin assumed the cross traffic would be stopping.

Janie Morales,44 and her five year old granddaughter are in stable condition. The Jeep Cherokee they were in was hit by a one-ton pickup.

Officer James Jordan says the jeep's driver made a serious mistake. "She approached the stop sign, stopped, according to witnesses at the stop sign and then came out. The Dodge pickup was north bound on Old Tyler Road and just couldn't stop for the Jeep."

The pickup was pulling a fully loaded cattle trailer, which caused it to be unable to stop in time. The livestock and the driver are o-k, but a dog in the Jeep was killed.
