Kountze man killed in Jasper Co. auto-pedestrian accident

JASPER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

An auto-pedestrian crash on US 96 in Jasper County resulted in the death of a 35-year-old Kountze man late Monday night.

According to Trooper Stephanie Davis, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, the man who was killed was identified as Chad Wayne Drake.

The accident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Monday five miles north of Buna in Jasper County, a press release stated. A 2006 Ford driven by June Maurice, 68, of Buna, was traveling south on US 96 in the outside lane. Drake was also walking southbound in the outside lane.

The Ford struck Drake from behind, the press release stated. Justice of the Peace Mike smith pronounced Drake dead at the scene. Maurice was not hurt in the accident.

PS troopers are still investigating the fatal auto-pedestrian accident, and no further details are available at this time.
